Kyle Matthew Evans began his soccer career in the Fall of 2002 with the Ocean City High School boys’ soccer team.  On the surface, Kyle appeared to be just another freshman that was eager to have some fun playing soccer at the high school level.  However, everyone soon learned that he wasn’t a regular athlete. OCHS had stumbled upon a rare, once-in-a-lifetime player who would stop at nothing to bring himself and his teammates to greatness.  Over the next four years, the history of Ocean City soccer would be rewritten because of the talents of our leader, Kyle Evans.

Kyle made an impact right away earning significant varsity playing time as a freshman on one of the top teams in South Jersey.  In his sophomore year, Kyle led the Red Raiders to win the Group III New Jersey State Championship.  By junior year Kyle had sparked interest from top college programs all over the country.  His stats were unrivaled and already had a state championship under his belt.  For many this would be enough, but not for Kyle.  Kyle wanted perfection.

In 2005, Kyle led the Ocean City High School boys’ soccer team to an undefeated season – the only one in Cape-Atlantic League history.  Kyle was a first team All-American, first team all-state, South Jersey Offensive Player of the Year, and New Jersey State Gatorade Player of the Year.  He had a school record of 29 assists that year and graduated with 50 goals and 46 assists, both among the top three in school history.

Kyle did not care about his personal awards and accolades.  He would trade them all as long as he got to share that perfect season with his teammates and best friends.  Kyle Evans was an amazing athlete, fierce competitor, leader, and most importantly, a true friend.

Kyle passed away shortly after his 30th birthday on November 1st 2017.
